Our Jealous and Merciful God

Deuteronomy 4:29-31

²⁹ But if from there you seek the LORD your God, you will find him if you seek him with all your heart and with all your soul. ³⁰ When you are in distress and all these things have happened to you, then in later days you will return to the LORD your God and obey him. ³¹ For the LORD your God is a merciful God; he will not abandon or destroy you or forget the covenant with your ancestors, which he confirmed to them by oath.

These verses come after God says that He is a jealous God.  He has made Israel His inheritance and warns them of idolatry.  Even now, we ourselves are guilty of putting idols before our Holy God.  Whether they come in the form of others, ourselves, financial or emotional security.

Though we are sinful and undeserving, our merciful God has promised that when we do turn back to Him and seek Him with all our heart and soul, we will find Him.  When we are in distress, He will not abandon us.

We have such a merciful, kind God.  He does not treat us as we deserve.  May we seek Him with all that we have.  He is faithful!
